Fish Wives Day at Western Court Nr Alresford

We had a wonderful day at Western Court yesterday, there were seven of us in total and every lady caught their two fish! Andrea, Becky and Tracy arrived early in the morning, Andrea caught the first two ( of course!! ) Liz, Sue, June and Christine then joined later in the morning.

Western Court

Liz joined to fish but also to show our lovely ladies how to tie their own fly. Christine, Sue and Andrea all tied their own then fished with them in the afternoon.  Lunch of course was wonderful, and was even more so as the sun was shining all day long!

What a lovely little fishery

Fish Wives fished at Church Paddock Fishery near Winchester on Thursday 27th March. This is a charming water with good fishing. A well designed lake with a well positioned and warm fishing lodge, coffee and tea are free to fishing people and the decking offers a very comfortable place to rest between catches to watch others fish. The facilities include a warm a spacious loo.

The whole fishery has been designed well with good places to fish and plenty of fish to catch.  Eddy and Jamie could not have been more helpful.  There is a gutting area and Eddy is happy to clean your fish and fillet them for you.

The fishing was great with good stocks of rainbow and brown trout in a variety of sizes. Andrea caught two fish before lunch on an orange buzzer and a beautiful brownie and another large rainbow before the day was over.  Tracy struggled to catch, landing her first fish with a green flash damsel just before lunch and two more in the afternoon.

We really enjoyed ourselves and will be back with more Fish Wives soon .

Pre-season Dinner at The Peat Spade Inn

Fish Wives held their pre season dinner on Monday 24th March 2014 at the Peat Spade Inn at Longstock nr Stockbridge Hampshire
The Peat Spade is full of sporting photographs of the rich and famous shooting and fishing. The bar is candle lit in the evenings which creates a nice atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming so it is a good place to get together with friends.

Five Fish Wives were joined by three guests for dinner in the private dining room on the first floor.  Ben the new manager of the Peat Spade had called earlier in the day to confirm numbers and the menu.

After a drink at the bar we moved up to the dining room which is well furnished and decorated. With specimen salmon looking down from their glass cases on the walls we settled into our seats for an evening of good food and good conversation, liberally embellished with fishing stories.

The food was well cooked and well presented. My steak was cooked to perfection. The salted caramel ice cream with honeycomb was really good.  Altogether a great evening to kick off the fishing season, we will be back before the season is out. Lunch is great too and you get to enjoy the scenery.

Fish Wives next fishing day is l on Thursday 27th at Church Paddock Fishery.
